Tenorio Volcano National Park

The color of the Celeste River, surrounded by a lush forest, offers an impressive landscape worth knowing and admiring. A river with crystal clear waters that is tinged with turquoise. It is not an act of magic: it is a natural spectacle that you can only witness at the site known as El Teñidero.

Located in the Volcanic Cordillera of Guanacaste, this Park houses a rain forest that protects species of flora and fauna of regional importance. Within the area, the Tenorio volcano, with its four cones, offers natural panoramic views that allow you to appreciate the Pacific and Caribbean plains.

“It is a magical place that offers a wide variety of possibilities to appreciate the wonders of nature and difficult to find phenomena. If you don’t know it, it’s time to do it; you will not regret it, ”said Vilmar Villalobos, administrator of the Park.

Main attractives

Río Celeste Waterfall: This waterfall, which has a height of approximately 30 meters, has become the main attraction due to its bluish coloration.

The blue lagoon: Small pool of intense color. It is not allowed to enter its waters because they have a high concentration of natural chemicals.

The boiling or borbollones: They are fissures and cracks where gases of the volcanic activity of the place escape at high temperature.

El Teñidero: Point where the phenomenon that gives the celestial coloration to the river begins. From many other sectors you can see the turquoise color of the water, but this is the only place where you can see the change in hue.

Thermal waters: They are a product of volcanic activity and are located in the bed of the Celeste river.

Mysteries of the Tenorio: It is a nature trail with a distance of 3.2 km. Through it you can visit the main attractions of the Park, such as the waterfall, the blue well, the borbollones and El Teñidero.
