The town of Montezuma
Located on the Nicoya Peninsula, Montezuma is a small beach town known for its bohemian attitude and artistic residents. It is located within high cliffs and a jungle where small rivers pour into perfect arches to create these picturesque waterfalls. In the city center, tourists will be able to observe the charming wooden houses as well as their vibrant life. Restaurants, hotels and beaches are within walking distance of each other.

How to get to the Montezuma waterfall

The start of the walk to this waterfall is very close to the city. However, since there aren’t many signs, be sure to stay focused or ask a local for help. Start on the main beach road from the Hotel Amor de Mar and walk south until you cross a bridge over the river. Once you pass the bridge, you will see that there is a path on the right. Along the way through the jungle, you will see families of monkeys and colorful birds that accompany your walk. After about 20 minutes, you reach the first and highest waterfall.
If you are driving, you can park nearby with a cost of approximately $ 2.

The Three Cascades
The first waterfall is a paradise for tourists. It is the highest of the three, and for the brave, there are several rocks to jump from. Locals jump effortlessly, but that’s only because they’ve had years of practice. If you want to do the same, be careful and wear rock-resistant, non-slip shoes. There are also great swimming pools, where visitors can cool off, relax and enjoy the day.
The second waterfall is about 13 meters high, and has a lower cliff jump point. To get there from the first waterfall, you will have to climb a path using tree roots and a rope but rest assured that it is well worth the effort.
At just 3 meters high, the third waterfall is best known for its natural pool and its cliffs. There is a rope swing that is sure to entertain for hours. Starting on the second fall, walk down the paved road next to the parking lot beach, past the butterfly garden, and head on the dirt road until you find the old jungle gym. Then turn left on the only track to reach the third series of falls.
The Montezuma Falls become a great day of adventure for the whole family, as it is one of the best attractions that the country has to offer.
