You will get to know from a dry forest, to a cloud forest, in the middle of a volcanic environment on a short tour.
Emanations of boiling mud, boiling water and vapors that resonate in the environment. You can witness all this volcanic activity and you can also visit a dry forest, a humid forest, a very humid one and a cloud forest in just two hours.
“There are unique experiences that can only be lived in this Park, such as a visit to La Cangreja waterfall (known as the ‘blue lagoon’ due to the characteristic color of the water). The walks through the different environments with impressive views of the sea and the opportunity to witness ‘in the front row’ some of the training agents of the Costa Rican territory, ”emphasized Alexander García, in charge of tourism for this National Park.

Main attractives
Rincón de la Vieja has two sectors. Las Pailas and Santa María, among whose beauties the volcanic manifestations stand out.
-In Las Pailas you can visit the trail of the same name, the Escondidas waterfalls and La Cangreja (all of high difficulty).
-In Santa María you can visit the Colibrí trail, the cold water basins, the Enchanted Forest waterfalls, the hot springs (all of them of moderate difficulty) and the viewpoint (high difficulty).

-Respect the Park’s visiting hours.

-Take care of your belongings.
-Stay on the trails. Bring water, suitable shoes and a light bulb.
-Feeding animals and leaving residues can alter their diet and behavior, let’s avoid it.
-Pets are not allowed.
-Extracting plants, rocks, animals and materials from the place is not allowed.
-No smoking inside the park and entering with drugs or alcoholic beverages.
-The garbage is not part of the natural environment, collect it and deposit it in the garbage cans, or take it out of the Park.
-It is not allowed to carry out sports activities, noise or other actions that alter public order and the Park’s resources.
-The entrance to the waterfalls trail (crab and hidden) must be before 12:00 m.d.
-In the camping area in the Santa María Sector, when cooking use the grills in the lunch area. Use gas or coal.
-The Pailas Sector does not have a camping area.

How to get?:
Las Pailas Sector: From San José, drive north towards Puntarenas and then follow the Inter-American highway towards Liberia. Once you arrive in Liberia, continue 5 km north, on the North Inter-American highway, there is the entrance to Curubandé and the PNRV, drive approximately 15 km northeast, on a paved road that crosses the town of Curubandé, you will arrive to a metal gate, from this gate continue 10 km more, on a ballast street until you reach Sector Pailas.
Santa María Sector: From San José take the Inter-American highway towards Liberia. Take the path that starts in Barrio La Victoria, then take the path that leads to the town of Colonia Blanca, then turn left, approximately 25 km.
